Latest Developments at Peak District Spa
Rivendale's New Large Timber Yurt
The 16' diameter canvas Yurt at Rivendale has been replaced with a new large timber Yurt in response to request from our guests for more accommodation with beds - particularly from those arriving by bicycle or public transport, for whom transporting bedding is a chore to put it mildly! So the new timber Yurt has a double divan bed & two bunk beds with matresses, bedding & linen. It also has an electric heater, wood-fired stove with an initial supply of seasoned timber, lighting, domestic 3 pin power outlets, table & chairs for a cosy & very comfortable camping experience - if you want your own kitchens and bathrooms, you need look no further than our bedroom suites or pine lodges.
The relevance to Peak District Spa is:
- If you want a camping type experience with beds for 2 adults and 2 children as a family (or 4 adults) then book the New Large Timber Yurt – this has been an issue for some clients who want to try glamping but don’t actually own any camping gear, or simply hate the thought of an air bed.
- If you want your own toilets & showers then book a room at Peak District Spa.
- If you want bathrooms/shower rooms/ hot tubs/ TV’s /kitchens – then book a pine lodge.
We are graded M1 and M2 for Quality in Tourism
Quality in Tourism assessed Peak District Spa for accessibility and graded it M1 & M2 that is suitable for “Older & less mobile guests, part-time wheelchair users” for the GROUND FLOOR bedrooms 3 & 4. Both suites have level access from the parking area immediately outside and shower room wet rooms with shower seats ensuite (a shower proof wheel chair is available on request). Bedroom 4 is a double, bedroom 3 can be a twin or double.
The accommodation gained a Silver Award for quality.
Walkers Welcome Award
We were also awarded “Walkers Welcome” as a great place for Walkers and Ramblers to stay. A boot drying cupboard is provided for drying out wet gear, plus free maps and information of circular walkers direct from site – which venture into the spectacular limestone scenery of the river Dove about a mile away, Eaton & Alsop Dales, Biggin & Beresford dales as well as the Tissington Trail about 100 metres away.
Peak District Spa facilities and opportunities
Part of our “USP” effort for Peak District Spa are the opportunities for walkers and cyclists. We are trying to encourage more (non-resident) walkers, cyclists and passers by on the busy A515 to use the on-site café (called The Stables) – at which point we can let them know about our bedroom suites. The way we do this is to let them park in our car park for free, subject to them spending a minimum of £4 in our cafe – which is what they would spend on a one day parking ticket in the National Park car park at nearby Alsop Station. By comparison with that car park, instead of an unlit car park with no toilets, no tarmac surface & cars prone to pilferage due to the lack of security, visitors get a car park protected by CCTV, toilets (including accessible toilets), a tarmac surface, and £4 to spend in a heated café - in other words a “no-brainer” as to where to park.
Rivendale Holiday Park offers accessible lodges about 500 metres from the bedroom suites. These offer more comprehensive facilities for people with mobility difficulties, including hoists, profiling beds, shower proof wheel chairs, commode wheel chairs and so forth. Two luxurious three bedroom lodges are available and are better suited to family use.
Peak District Spa & Rivendale open around 31st January – most parks are in the Peak District are shut until Easter.
